March 2021 issue
There has been so much conversation going around about digital vs. hard copy magazines lately and, while we embrace the new technology and say thank you for the reach it would provide us in terms of readership, I find myself a bit sad and nostalgic at the thought. I, like many of you, want to feel a book in my hands. I have tried to do the “kindle” thing… it didn’t last very long. The closest I get to a digital book now is listening to an audiobook. (This also takes place rarely and I find the calls for it are few and far between.)
What has also become abundantly clear is that everyone fancies themselves as experts in the digital realm. It’s so easy to pass off opinions as facts.
This is quite worrying when we try to educate individuals on proper pet care and while we always endeavour to bring you articles of interest and information, we do also try to include educational and other items that you can refer back to.
Luckily for us, we have the best of the best supporters, writers and celebrities backing our publication. On this cover, we feature Esmarie Yssel, who is a journalist, radio presenter, writer and, among other things, a Bearded Collie mom! In my conversations with Esmarie, I have found one of the most soundly emotional intelligent individuals I’ve ever met. Her mission is to find facts and to tell the stories of those who have lived through some of life’s most hectic experiences. She is also a bit of a romantic and glass-half-full kind of person. Check out page 8 to see what I mean.
We also have a new writer on board! We welcome Brian Berkman, who tells us all about his travels with his pooch, Julie. In this issue, he takes us to the Marine Hotel in Hermanus as well as Petersfield. His insightful reviews are on page 34.
To all our readers. Why don’t you let us know what your preferred method of reading is? We will be hosting a poll on our website as well as on social media this month and would appreciate your input.
Until next time!
In an effort to make sure that everyone can get their hands on a hard copy of our magazine, we have introduced our new direct mailing program. Please note that the charge for the magazine will be allocated to the postage cost of the magazine and not the magazine itself. Thank you for choosing Prints with a Purpose!
